Ignacio Durán, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chief of Section of the Medical Oncology Department at Hospital Universitario “Virgen del Rocio” in Seville and the leader of the Genitourinary Oncology Program at this institution. He also collaborates as a co-investigator at the Biomedicine Institute of Seville (IBIS) in the molecular oncology and novel therapies laboratory.
He earned his M.D. in 1997 at the Universidad de Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain and his Ph.D. in 2005 at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, with highest commendation. He trained in Medical Oncology at the Hospital Universitario Son Dureta in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and completed a Fellowship in Drug Development and genitourinary Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Throughout his career, Dr. Duran has spent significant time in distinguished national and international investigational centers such as the headquarters of the CSIC at the Universidad de Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Nantes, France, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY and The Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
Dr. Durán’s major interests are genitourinary tumors, medical teaching, and anticancer clinical drug development.
Dr. Durán is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Madrid, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society of Medical Oncology, and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology among others.
Dr. Durán has authored numerous publications in internationally respected scientific journals, covering diverse areas of medical oncology.
Among the rewards received throughout his career, Dr. Durán is recipient of the ASCO Foundation Merit Award, the Novartis Young Canadian Investigator Award, and the University Health Network Outstanding Research Presentation Award.
